100ft Ethernet Cable – Information and Tips

Games consoles have come a long way in the last few years.  It is now possible to actually compete with others online through your Sony PS3, Nintendo Wii or Xbox 360 if you wish.  What you will require is a modem (DSL or cable) or a wireless router which the console can be connected to.  Plus of course you will also need a long cable to then connect the console to.  Most consoles come with a 25ft cable however you can if you want purchase a 100ft Ethernet cable instead.  Allowing you the opportunity to play at a further distance.

However, you cannot use just any old Ethernet cables for connecting your games console to the modem or router.  You must make sure that the cable is classified as a Category 6 or Cat 6a version.  These are cables specifically designed and structured to be used with computer networks.  The reason to opt for these over the original Category 5e types of cables is that they have much more bandwidth.  As a result this means that the way the game is played wonít be affected.

But just as with the Category 5e cables the new Category 6 or Cat 6a cables are made up of copper which have been twisted around each other.  It is the copper which allows the passing of the bandwidth through them to the console from the modem or router so much more efficient.

The great thing about using a 100ft Ethernet cable to connect your games console to the internet is that they are very sturdy.  This is because the copper wires are coated in plastic to provide the necessary protection.  But it is also very strong and is able to withstand being bent or stepped on.  Actually needing to replace these cables at any point in the future is unlikely compared to some of the other cables that you will have attached to your console or computer.

You can purchase just a conventional 100ft Ethernet cable for using with your games console however some companies are now providing ones designed for specifically using with them.  In most those who choose to buy say a new Sony PS3 today will find that with their console Sony have provided an Ethernet cable.  However, in most cases it only measures around 5 ft.  So if you happen to have your router in a room that isnít where the console will be used then of course this means that you will have to purchase a further cable.

However, although you will have to purchase a longer cable which you can then run to your game console it is worth the investment.  As you will soon discover when you search online that on average a good quality 100ft Ethernet cable isnít going to cost much more than around $7.00. But if you really want to save even more money on the purchase of this item and feel you have the skills you could actually make your own instead.  Although the cost of making your own to buying even a $7.00 isn’t that much.
